JOKOWI

Joko Widodo or Jokowi nicknamed (born in Surakarta, Central Java, June 21, 1961) was elected as President of the 7th Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 2014. He was elected along with Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla in the 2014 presidential election Jokowi has served as Governor of Jakarta since October 15, 2012 until October 16, 2014, accompanied by Basuki Tjahaja Purnama as deputy governor. Previously, he was the Mayor of Surakarta (Solo), since July 28, 2005 until October 1, 2012, accompanied by F.X. Hadi Rudyatmo as deputy mayor.

Two years into his second term mayor of Solo, Jokowi appointed by his party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), for contesting the election for Governor of Jakarta paired with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).

Since elected governor, his popularity continues to soar and into the media spotlight. As a result, emerging discourse to make a presidential candidate for the presidential elections Indonesia 2014.
